Duties: | GENERAL DUTIES Manages the development and operation of a College academic testing function.
- Implements and monitors a comprehensive academic testing program; makes recommendations to improve department policies and procedures - Participates in outcomes assessment and strategic planning to improve testing operations - Manages testing computer operations including scheduling appropriate technical maintenance and repairs; trains staff members to administer computer-adaptive testing sessions - Ensures compliance with test security protocols; oversees scoring of all administered tests - Oversees generation and distribution of testing materials including authorization letters, rosters for faculty, and student test results; monitors program placement of tested students into remedial and credit-bearing courses - Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management - May manage professional and/or clerical staff; may monitor unit budget - Performs related duties as assigned.
CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION This position will have a strong knowledge base and experience in the implementation and administration of standardized tests. The CUNY Assessment Test (CAT) consists of three tests, Reading, Writing and Mathematics. These tests determine whether or not students can enroll in credit-bearing courses or must first take remedial classes in reading, writing, math or ESL. The CUNY Proficiency Examination (CPE) is required of all CUNY students prior to graduation exam to assess proficiency in reading, writing and quantitative reasoning. Responsibilities for CAT include, but are not limited to coordinating the system of inviting students to take the test; coordinating review of LaGuardia writing booklets at the borough reading center; coordinating the review of LaGuardia writing booklets with the English and Language Acquisition Department; coordinating data flow between SKAT and SIMS; regular updates to SKAT; posting of testing exemptions, stops and test scores; coordinating the maintenance of computer systems in the testing lab; proctoring exams; and providing information on New Student Advisement and Registration (NSAR). He/she is also responsible for applicable mid-term and final retesting in remedial classes and the test schedule for special populations. Responsibilities for CPE include, but are not limited, to the invitation and distribution of CPE materials for those eligible to take the exam; assisting with the coordination and registration of CPE workshops; and proctoring the exams. Additional responsibilities for CAT and CPE include creating a calendar and register of eligible students; maintaining the security of the test exams booklets; and upholding institutional academic standards and testing policies of CUNY. He/she will represent the college at CUNY Testing Council, the college-wide Enrollment Process & Strategies Committee, and have integral role in the implementation of CUNYFirst. This positions report to the Director of Testing and Student Advisement. Occasional evening and weekend work required |
Qualifications: | MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree and six years related experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Candidates must possess excellent communications skills, management and interpersonal skills, be detailed and multi-task oriented with strong proficiency in MS office application programs. Also strong organizational skills, ability to work independently as well as perform as a team member in a fast-paced environment preferred. Strong preference will be give to candidates with testing experience within CUNY. Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a rich and diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds, and those with disabilities. Experience working in a community with a similar diversity pattern as is found at LaGuardia Community College is desirable. |
Salary: | $55,602 - $88,418 FLSA
Exempt CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria. |
