The LaGuardia Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), founded in 2000, won the TIAA-CREF Hesburgh Certificate of Excellence in 2004. The Center’s year-long seminars have proven a powerful catalyst for pedagogical change and innovation at the College. As part of the Difficult Dialogues Project, the CTL is offering a seminar on the challenges presented when questions of faith and values enter the classroom.

During Spring 2007, LaGuardia will organize 20 conversation circles to discuss the effects of religious diversity and the role of faith and religion in American life.

Following the model developed by the Study Circle Resource Center, each circle will consist of a diverse group of 8-to-12 individuals (i.e., faculty, staff, students, community members) who will meet for weekly 2-hour sessions over a 4-week period.

Everyone has a story to tell. In today’s world, students can produce and preserve their stories digitally. As part of the Project, students in both credit and non-credit courses will be encouraged to record stories relating to their religious upbringing.

By archiving and sharing these digital stories, the diversity of LaGuardia’s students can be illuminated and better understood.
