  • Upgrade your skills in food service management and prepare for the highly demanded ServSafe® industry certification. Become a food service supervisor!

  • Certified Dietary Managers are nationally recognized experts at managing dietary operations. The LaGuardia ACE Dietary Manager Program provides training for people already working in a healthcare food service facility to continue up the career ladder.

    The program is presented in three modules: fall, winter and spring. Each module runs for 10 weeks and includes 40 hours of lecture plus 50 hours of supervised fieldwork at the work site. Upon successful completion of the program, you are eligible to sit for the ServSafe certification examination.

    To qualify for the Dietary Manager Program, you need to:
    • Have a high school diploma or equivalency
    • Be currently working in a food service department
    • Have a registered dietitian who will act as your preceptor

    According to Labor Insight™ Burning Glass Technologies, Dietary Managers make $43,000 a year on average in New York (based on Nov. 2015 – Oct. 2016 data).
    According to Burning Glass Technologies, the ServSafe certification has been the most demanded requirement for a Certified Dietary Manager (11,000 job postings in the last five years) compared to just a certification for dietary manager (900 positions).

    She is the Director of Clinical Nutrition and Patient Services at New York Methodist Hospital. She has taught at LaGuardia since 2002.

    LaGuardia has partnered with Harlem Hospital to create a customized Dietary Manager Program, training incumbent workers to become highly skilled Dietary Managers or become prepared for other related professional opportunities.
