The sun sheds light on a corner where women inspect a flood of fruits and flowers. It illuminates the full white beard and mint green turban of a man, casting a shadow on his deep rust-colored skin. A red brick façade hides behind graffiti.

These and many more flashes of the rich cultural diversity of Astoria were immortalized by LaGuardia Community College Commercial Photography students in the “Astoria Project.”

A collaborative project with the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity, this 50-piece photographic exhibit is on display now through the end of June on the LaGuardia campus.

Viewing hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in LaGuardia’s Gallery of Photographic Arts, located on the third floor of the College’s B building at 30-20 Thomson Avenue, Long Island City.
