As a member of the LaGuardia Community College Alumni Association, you will be invited to all events sponsored by the Association, including membership meetings, seminars, workshops, get-togethers, receptions, mentor programs, educational and social gatherings, trips, lectures/seminars, and career workshops. RECREATIONAL FACILITIES

Alumni Association members may purchase discounted passes to use the College’s recreational facilities. This includes the Sports Gym, Fitness Center and Pool. You must present your valid Alumni Association card in order to be eligible for the discount.

  • A combination Open Gym/Fitness Center pass will enable you to use the gym during “Open Recreation Hours” to play basketball, volleyball, etc. It will also enable you to use the Fitness Center, which is now, a first-class weight training and cardiovascular facility! Fees $5/daily; $20/3 months; $65/year.

  • An Open Swim pass will enable you to use the pool during “Open Swim & Lap Swim” Hours. $5/daily; $20/3 months, $100/year.

  • Alumni Association members may also purchase a “Gold Pass” which will entitle you to use the Sports Gym, Fitness Center, attend Group Fitness Classes and use the Pool for an entire year! Fee $150/year.

ADULT& CONTINUING EDUCATION

Members of the Alumni Association may receive a 50% discount for most continuing education courses on a space available basis. You must present your current alumni card when registering for courses.

  • A non-refundable registration fee of $10.00 is required for all courses.

  • Discounts become available three (3) days prior to the start of the selected course.

  • Courses in the New Directions for Mature Adults program are already discounted. Some courses are exempt from discounts or waivers. These are coded ND after the tuition costs. See class schedule for details.

LAGUARDIA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

The LaGuardia Performing Arts Center (LPAC) presents an array of music, dance, performance art and theatre for audiences of all ages. Ticket prices are extremely reasonable, but as a member of the Alumni Association, you are eligible for discounts from $3 and up off ticket prices on all performances. SERVICES

In addition to the benefits sponsored by the Alumni Association, other areas of the College provide services to members at no charge, or for a discounted fee. Those services are described below. Please contact the appropriate area for additional information concerning hours, program descriptions and fees.

During your career you may face many challenges including re-entry to the labor force; job or career advancement; changing work conditions and much more. Don’t face these challenges alone. The Job Placement Office of the Division of Cooperative Education provides a variety of programs and services that can help you advance your career or assist your job search.

  • All alumni have until one year after their date of graduation to register with the Job Placement Office for FREE services. The office will work with these graduates for a total of one year from the date they register with the Placement Office.

  • FREE services are offered for Alumni Association members after the initial one-year offered to all graduates.

Job Placement Office

The Job Placement pass entitles holders to:

  • Two half-hour individual consultations on your job search and career advancement.

  • Mailings on our Job Fairs and Seminars

  • Invitations to workshops

  • Access to the CUNY JLD Job Bank and printed job leads.

  • Opportunity for a Simulated Interview which provides constructive feedback on interviewing skills.

  • Access to PCs and Macs for writing for writing cover letters & resumes.

  • Usage of the Resource Library for books, magazines and videotapes on job and career related topics.


WORD PROCESSING AND COMPUTER LABS

Alumni Association members may use the College’s computer labs when classes are not in session. Please bring your own supply of paper and floppy disks. To avoid delays and disappointment, please contact the labs prior to coming on campus in order in order to verify their hours. Keep in mind that lab hours may vary each semester and during intersession periods. You must present your valid alumni card and obey the instructions of lab personnel. You should also ask if a staff person would be available to provide you with assistance.

  • The Computer Systems Department Lab is located in Room L-210, telephone (718) 349-4062.


LIBRARY & LIBRARY MEDIA RESOURCES CENTER

Alumni Association members have book borrowing privileges as well as use the electronic resources. Alumni will have to present their cards to be registered into the Library system before they can borrow or use the electronic resources. A bar code number will be assigned to each member. The College’s Reference Library upon presentation of your Alumni Association membership card. Some of the electronic resources include: EBSCOhost, Lexis-Nexis, netLibrary, InfoTrac as well as many other resources. There are many more resources available. Electronic or subscription databases can be accessed from home. Call 482-5425 for Library Information.
