• Spring Into Action
  • Introduction

The cost of attending college is a pressing concern for all students, particularly during these challenging
economic times. While tuition at LaGuardia Community College remains low, it has relative impact on
many of our students who struggle to fund all aspects of their education. It is for this reason that the
LaGuardia Community College Foundation has created the Spring Into Action Campaign.

  •  Goal

The LAGCC Foundation’s Spring Into Action campaign will provide new and returning LAGCC students with tuition assistance to supplement the cost of their education.

    The campaign seeks to:

    • Raise funds to provide $4,000 scholarships for full-time, degree-pursuing students in good academic standing who have demonstrated financial need. This scholarship represents a full year of tuition for in-state students or one semester of tuition for international/out-of-state students and seeks to reduce or eliminate the need for loans.
    • Engage prospective donors from all areas of the internal and external College community (including alumni, faculty, staff, LAGCC Foundation Board, local businesses, foundations, organizations, and friends) in a collaborative effort that will benefit students.
    • Provide donors with an opportunity to see their contributions directly impact each student’s educational career at LaGuardia.

     LaGuardia Community College

LaGuardia Community College, located in Long Island City, Queens, New York, was founded in 1971 as the ultimate test case in opening the doors of higher education to all, and we proudly carry forward that legacy today. Every College-wide achievement, every faculty accomplishment and every student success starts with the courage to ask “What if?” LaGuardia opens doors for more than 80,000 students through over 50 degree, certificate and continuing education programs. We enable transfer to four-year colleges at three times the national average. As a nationally recognized leader among community colleges for our boundary-breaking success in educating underserved students, we imagine new ideas, create new curriculum and pioneer programs to make our community and our country stronger.

    case for suppot- need

Over two-thirds of our students come from households making under $25,000, and most require financial assistance even with our tuition being one of the lowest in the New York area at just under $4,000 a year. Additionally, international/out-of-state students, whose tuition is double, are not eligible for financial aid so their need is substantially increased. Financial assistance will not only make attendance possible and much less challenging, but it will have a huge impact on our students’ lives. Our data has shown that LaGuardia students’ family income increases by 17% upon graduation, significantly improving their quality of life.

The Spring Into Action campaign will provide scholarships of $4,000 in tuition assistance for deserving students at LaGuardia Community College. The campaign will engage prospective donors from all areas of the internal and external College community in directly supporting the education of degree-pursuing LAGCC students with limited financial resources. We encourage and thank you for your consideration, action and vital support of this important initiative.
