The Department of Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science at LaGuardia Community College serves a diverse population of students living and/or
working in the neighborhoods of western Queens, across the East
River from midtown Manhattan. The department offers a wide variety
of courses: from arithmetic and basic algebra to linear algebra,
calculus, and differential equations. Matriculated students begin
the study of mathematics at levels determined by placement
examination. They quickly come to appreciate the supportive
classroom atmosphere, which is a hallmark of LaGuardia in general.
Gradually, students acquire the requisite mathematical skills, as
well as the confidence for advanced work. Students in LaGuardia
mathematics courses are exposed to appropriate classroom technology,
and connections are forged with learning paradigms in other
disciplines whenever possible.
Additionally, a Dual/Joint
Engineering Science Program has been articulated with City College of the City University of New York. Students completing the two-year program with an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Science will be guaranteed admittance to an appropriate track (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical) of the four-year baccalaureate program at City College. Students will also have the option to transfer to other engineering programs. |
