What is Electrical Engineering?
Electrical engineering focuses on designing, testing, and manufacturing
of electrical and electronic equipment. Students learn about
telecommunications and digital signal processing, systems and robotics,
electromagnetics and RF, As an electrical engineer, you could work with many different kinds of
electromagnetic fields. Do you have a cellular phone or a computer? Wireless communication and
the Internet are just a few areas electrical engineering has helped
flourish, by developing better phones,. You could help maintain and
expand the networks that send information over the internet, control
navigation of airplanes and ships, and power medical devices like MRI
scanners. As we enter the 21st century, the technology that surrounds us will
continue to expand and electrical engineers are leading the way.
What kinds of jobs and projects can I work on?
Electrical and electronics engineers work primarily in research and
development industries, engineering services firms, manufacturing, and
the federal government. The projects you may work on can range from designing a
telecommunication system or the operation of electric power stations to
the lighting and wiring of buildings, the design of household
appliances, and the electrical control of industry machinery.
