The Wellness Center partners with educational institutions to provide Mental Health Counseling and Social Work Graduate Interns with an opportunity to engage in practice under the direct supervision of skilled and experienced licensed professionals.
The internship combines didactic learning with actual experience in a clinical setting. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in outreach and education efforts (i.e. tabling, workshops, classroom visits, counseling groups) as well as other projects including developing ideas for the Center’s social media initiatives and monthly newsletter.
Interns will also participate in a comprehensive orientation and ongoing training, multiple forms of supervision and comprehensive case management. A "typical" 20-hour-a-week intern will spend approximately 50% in direct service, 20% in indirect service delivery–documentation/client files, 20% in training and supervision and 10% in outreach and education efforts.
We recognize that our interns are not employees. They carry a limited caseload of clients and are supervised by experienced and trained clinicians. The limited caseload provides necessary time for training, supervision, case management including but not limited treatment planning, documentation and maintenance of assigned client files.
