  • Requirements

    ASAP LaGUARDIA IS NOW RECRUITING FOR SPRING 2018!!!

    All students must:

    • Be a New York City resident and/or eligible for in-state tuition.
    • Be accepted to LaGuardia Community College.
    • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application at www.hesc.ny.gov each year, and accept any federal and state grant aid awarded (Pell, SEOG, TAP).” All ASAP students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application at www.hesc.ny.gov each year, and accept any federal and state grant aid awarded (Pell, SEOG, TAP). Students not in receipt of financial aid but are otherwise eligible may join ASAP but not receive tuition waivers.
    • Complete all required CUNY admissions requirements, including the CUNY Skills Assessment Test.
    • Agree to enter into an Associate Degree granting program (A.A., A.S., or A.A.S.) on a full-time basis, which is defined as enrolling in at least 12 credits (or equated credits) in session I and at least 3 credits (or equated credits) in session II.
    • Have accumulated no more than 15 college credits at the completion of the Fall 2017 Session I.
    • Continuing students must be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or above) and be able to take a full-time course load in Spring 2018.

    Students may not:

    • Participate in both SEEK/College Discovery and ASAP. Click here for a brief comparison of SEEK/College Discovery and ASAP.
    • Have more than two outstanding developmental course needs based on their scores on the CUNY Assessment Tests in reading, writing and math. For example, students needing to complete Math 096 and English 099, or Math 095 and Math 096 may apply.
    • Alternatively, students who need to complete developmental courses Math 096, English 099, and Reading 099 (CSE99), together, are not eligible. Speak with our Recruitment Coordinator, Danny Ng, for further clarification.
    • Participate in the following majors: Undeclared Nursing, Physical Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, EMT, Radiology, Dietetic Technician, Music Recording Technology, Certificate programs. 

    HOW TO APPLY

    If you meet ASAP eligibility requirements, follow these six easy steps:

    1. STEP 1: Apply to LaGuardia Community College at www.cuny.edu/admissions.
    2. STEP 2: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application at www.hesc.ny.gov (students not in receipt of financial aid but are otherwise eligible may join ASAP but not receive a tuition waiver). Early applicants may be eligible for additional aid — APPLY TODAY!
    3. STEP 3: Be accepted to CUNY LaGuardia Community College — CONGRATULATIONS! — and accept your offer of admission.
    4. STEP 4: Complete all admissions requirements, including the CUNY Assessment Tests, if necessary (more information about testing my be found at http://www.cuny.edu/academics/testing.html).
    5. STEP 5: Stop by the ASAP Office in room B-A22 for the most updated information about eligible majors or other requirements.
    6. STEP 6: Complete the ASAP Eligibility Checklist.


    Once your checklist is completed, you will be directed how to sign up for a recruitment information session!  Attending an information session is required to be considered for admittance into ASAP. 


    Program slots are limited. All students who have applied to an Associate Degree granting program at LaGuardia Community College and meet all ASAP requirements will be contacted and invited to an ASAP information session.
