• Message from Our Provost: Transitions at the Center

  • I am pleased to announce that, pending Board of Trustee approval, Eric Hofmann will be our new Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, replacing Howard Wach as leader of the College’s Center for Teaching and Learning.

Eric will bring valuable skills and experience to this position, having helped launch the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS), Georgetown University’s equivalent of our Center. Serving as the CNDLS Assistant Director for Planning and Development from 2000-2004, he led campus-based and national professional development programs focused on inquiry pedagogy, curricular transformation, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.  Coming to CUNY in 2004, Eric has served since 2009 as the University Director of Collaborative Programs, successfully guiding respected programs focused on strengthening college preparation, first year transition, advisement, and partnerships between campuses, high schools and community-based organizations.

I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation to Howard Wach for his excellent work in guiding the Center through a period of significant growth and change, working with a diverse and powerful team to advance learning, teaching, and student success at LaGuardia. As I stated in my communication to the College in March, Howard’s new role includes the advancement and refinement of online professional development for college faculty as well as identification and external dissemination of other LaGuardia-based teaching innovations to advance the field of college teaching. He will also have oversight of LaGuardia’s global studies initiatives, including integrating activities across the divisions, engaging faculty and students in co-curricular learning in this arena in partnership with Student Affairs, and developing grant and externally-funded activities to advance student learning to achieve the college’s global learning objectives.

     - Dr. Paul Arcario, Provost and Sr. Vice President for Academic Affairs, LaGuardia Community College/CUNY
